Even if the title states that this article is about nutrition, I will write about another nutrition, the one for the soul, the one that we forget about when we start our fitness journey.
When we embark on a fitness journey we gather information about training and diet/nutrition. We, or most of us, forget about the benefits of training for our mental health and how to maximize them. It is not enough to know you will have a serotonin release after training, it is more important to actually feel it.
How do we do that, you might ask.
Well, it is about how the training makes you feel. Do you feel tired and exhausted during your workout? Then, you are pushing your body too hard. Do you feel that you can lift heavier? Then, add those weights on the bar. Do you feel hungry after eating a salad? Ask yourself if you have had enough to eat and if you have had enough nutrients before you decide that a little salad will sustain you for the day.
You have to make smart decisions, work smart on yourself not hard!
These three images are the best summary of how a fitness journey should look like. If we prioritize one of them the balance will be broken and you will not achieve your goal. Most often we minimize the impact fitness on our well being, happiness and mental health.
During the lockdown, a lot of people were mentally affected. Depression skyrocketed, on social media, some people tried to urge everyone to be kind and thoughtful.
I felt the sharp claws of anxiety myself, but I had my partner and my daughter close to me. They helped and supported me dearly.
A suggestion from one of my dear friends, was for me to start doing classes online. I confess here, that routine kept me sane, kept me going, helped me rediscover my passion for fitness and training.
I will keep doing online classes even after the gyms will re-open in the UK, I realized that it can have the same impact as a live class in the gym. The plus is that I can see friends that live oceans apart, we can train like we used to and be connected.
I hope you will have an amazing day. I hope you will be kind to yourself and I hope you nurture your soul and feed it positive thoughts.
Lots of love from me, keep strong and never give up!
