How many of us have had negative comments on social media or negative feedback at work? I think everyone!
How do you deal with them? Do you take it personally? Do you ignore, do you respond? I would like this post to be more interactive than others so please share your thoughts with me.
Negative feedback tends to reduce our self-esteem and self-image. I have been struggling with low self-esteem and self-image all my life. It all started around the age of 13 -14 when I needed all the support I could get. Feeling that “you’re not good enough” is a lonely place, puts a lot of pressure on your mental health.
When you go through a low self-esteem phase, it is essential to have someone supportive next to you, someone that shows you the real YOU and how much you’re worth. Sometimes you can bounce back by yourself, with a lot of discipline, but most times you need either a loved one or a professional to help you regain the confidence.
Funny thing though, people that should be our strongest support (family, partner), often are the ones that make us feel small and worthless.
Social media is a colourful place, but a very dangerous one for our mental health if we don’t filter the information correctly. Everything we see is people that share their happy experiences or attention seekers that complain about their miserable life or people offering their services (I am one of them, I have to admit).
Initially, I didn’t want to share much of me, my life, my struggles, being afraid of people judging me or the negative comments. Once I understood that the problem was not me, it’s the people that put these comments out there.
My mindset has now changed, today, I share more of me with the world, not being afraid of negative feedback. If you don’t like me, don’t follow me! If you don’t like me, and you’re still following me, means I am doing something right and you can’t stay away! Either way is fine with me. It is as simple as that.
This article is for the ones of you that go or went through low times in your life. You are not alone, you don’t have to go through tough times by yourself. I have created a big-hearted online community that is very supportive in every way. If you want to be a part of it, give me a shout!
